When drawing along a path, we often want to show the length of this path. This is not always possible… It will be possible, if the path is controllable (blue) splajn. But if the spline is converted (black) path length dimension cannot be inserted into. Difficulty may also arise in the case of, when the path consists of many different segments.
Sometimes a workaround can be found, e.g. instead of path operations, creating a structural member of the welded structure. However, the limitation is this, that such members cannot be splined!
Solution.
This is where the tool comes in handy Fit spline. However, you can't just edit the path and fit the spline because:
1. Fit spline cannot be dimensioned,
2. If we fit the spline, he will be the path, and the segments below it will be converted to structural ones. Of course it can be improved, but it takes some work.
That's why I think it's best to put a new one in 3D sketch. Then you need to show the absorbed sketch of the path i Convert it to a 3D sketch. Then you should fit spline. Only now, after exiting the sketch edit, you can insert reference dimension pointing to this spline.
remember, that this dimension (type RD @) can be hooked to custom properties and further displayed in the drawing.
