Smooth thread termination – see my proven solution

As I wrote in the past, threads are generally not physically modeled in CAD files. The exception are files for 3D printing, unusual threads (requiring CNC machining based on the model) or bottle threads necessary to recreate in mold.

That's why I'll show you, how to make a smooth ending of such a thread.

  1. Insert Ruled area like Normal to the surface.

2. Then I fold this surface from the adjacent edge. Typically, the input is defined by a radius, so you can introduce it in this method.

 

3. The last step is Sweep path, where the profile is the thread end face, and the path is one edge of the folded surface. You can select the other edge in the field guide curves, although in this case it does not change much.

 

Ready. Just add rounding and the thread will look perfect.
