When creating a linear pattern, you can choose the same direction, but the opposite turn. Then it is a good practice to select the option Source element only. As long as the option is recommended for pattern with addition, the option is necessary in the case of a cutout. If you don't select it, the second direction duplicates the notch from the first direction, and an error occurs.
