In SolidWorks drawing electrical cables or hoses, there is often a need to show the length of this element. You can easily view the length dimension by, then you can create a customized property.
At the beginning, insert 3D sketch and convert to all segments of the sketch. Then, use the command Fit Spline.
The resulting spline can not be black (fully defined) because then you can not insert dimension. So it must be enabled Delete geometry or unrelated. Only now one smooth curve can transform the 3D spline consisting of points and giving the dimension. Select the sketch and the right-click and select Convert to spline.
Now we insert the dimension by using the smart dimension. A good practice is to change the attribute dimension Dependent.
If you want to create a property with the length, add the appropriate header in the first column and the length dimension in the third (by double-clicking).
